Jeremy "Sailor" Smith

Artist

Born and raised in the suburbs and high deserts of Southern California, Jeremy “Sailor” Smith – father, big brother, and passionate young man – was deeply influenced by the things he observed at a young age on the streets of Los Angeles, where his family is deeply rooted. Keeping his loved ones and his natural talent at the forefront of his purpose, Jeremy manifested his dreams of being a professional tattooer and successful artist into a reality.

His passion and love for art and culture shines through in his custom art pieces that have been well respected, collected, and appreciated across the United States since 2006. Turning down a football and a Cal Arts scholarship to pursue tattooing, Jeremy apprenticed under Sasha Konkin straight out of high school. From CA to NY and back, “Sailor” now resides in Texas and is a traveling tattoo artist with a home base at 1st Revelation Tattoo in Weatherford.

Jeremy favors American Traditional and Southern Californian-style black and gray tattoos that can be spotted from coast to coast. He travels and tattoos regularly at multiple high-end studios. His pieces include anything from beautiful floral designs to really raw and aggressive graffiti-style pieces that he creates specifically with his clients and his life experiences in mind.

“There’s no job too big or too small,” he says. Jeremy has done award-winning pieces and takes great pride in his craft and industry when working with each individual client directly to create masterful, one-of-a-kind tattoos and custom art pieces.

When asked, "why the nickname 'Sailor'?"

I got the nickname from a shop owner based off my flash drawings that resembled the work of “Sailor Jerry” and my potty mouth. There were actually three Jeremys in that shop and I wasn’t gonna be “number 2.” I was away at a convention and our apprentice sat in my station and copied all my roses as if they were flash out of a street shop. (It was!) I came back to a tag on my wall that said “tattoos by Sailor Jeremy”… the nickname just stuck.

Nowadays, it’s also common to have a nickname in the art world.  I never served, but I appreciate those who have. “You come in as a client and leave as a friend,” says Sailor Smith.
